with the necessary funds to restore the structure. Please direct comments
to the Fire Commissioners.
4/30 The Fair Harbor Fire Volunteers responded to a fire under a house in
Saltaire. They arrived first, since ironically the Saltaire Department was
at training in Yaphank. It appears that this was another electrical fire
perhaps caused by frayed wires. We recommend checking your wiring
especially in windy areas.

Emergency Action for the Severe Coastal Erosion in
Dunewood and Fair Harbor is Now in Process
Information
Beach quality sand is stockpiled at Democrat Point and
available for emergency erosion use in "hot spot areas." Fair Harbor and
Dunewood are definitely eligible.
The Army Corp of Engineers, the NYS Department of
Environmental Conservation Bureau of Flood Protection and the Town of
Islip are all in agreement as to the necessity of this emergency action.
The Town of Islip and the other agencies involved are currently working
together to get sand on the beach by November - December 2001, before the
winter storms set in.
The Commissioner of Planning for the Town of Islip is
already in the process of obtaining permits and bids for trucking the sand
on an expedited basis. There is no charge for this sand, only for the
trucking and other related expenses. Therefore, this is not a high cost
project. It is imperative that all concerned citizens contact Peter
McGowan, Supervisor of the Town of Islip, to indicate your strong support
of this project. We need your support to make sure this emergency sand is
obtained.
