FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE FERRY  (by Frank Burns)

Pandemonium reigns, people, carts, dogs, cats birds, all stand jammed at the dock.
The ferry pulls in -the crowd surges  forward!
The 19 year old OFFICIAL  from FI Ferries slams the gate!
                     NOT YET!
Finally the gate opens  12 inches ( or so it seems)
The smallest opening KNOWN to man
One by one, and I mean one by one  people ,dogs, cats  move forward
                    TICKETS PLEASE!
  Somebody fumbles-the crowd groans.
Finally we get by the gate and rush to the back  to load the carts
TWO DOLLARS PLEASE
( FOR WHAT BAGS FREE CARTS TWO DOLLARS!)
On board at last we begin to settle down,
The ferry moves out-slowly at first-then gathering speed
              the engines surge!
We are out in the bay, spray streaming by
       Its a beautiful night
Goodbye City-Hello Fire Island-another weekend begins!

      June 98   (by Frank Burns)

It was a long wet Spring.
    Suddenly sweet summer has exploded!
       The  hot sun beating down,
          The scented breeze,
The buzz and activity of life reveling  in itself.

  I looked around
                  And thought
This is as close to Paradise  as I am every going to get!
