Up One Level • 7-23-2000 • 8-15-99 • 5-23-99 • 9-27-98 • 8-2-98 • 5-16-98

The following does not represent the official meeting minutes. The minutes can be obtained from the FHCA directly.

Summary of subjects covered:

FHFD officers visited and presented the following

  • The houses that burned this winter in Saltaire and Cherry Grove burned as is believed due to electrical shorts at the Main LIPA boxes. LIPA is in the process of checking all boxes and connections. The FHFD is advising home-owners to check their setup and report all irregularities to LIPA.
  • Although 6 to 8new members joined the FHFD in the last three years, the FHFD as a volunteer organization always needs and appreciates new members.
  • Home-owners are asked to clearly mark their homes with house numbers so that the FD in an emergency can respond quicker. It is suggested to place the house numbers on the lower right ramp or other clearly visible spot.
  • The Town of Islip is delayed in cleaning/clearing brush and vines from the walks. The FHFD asks home owners in the meantime to clear away such obstruction for easier and safer fire equipment access.
  • Reminder: Public FD meeting every 3rd Sunday of a month at 10am.

FHCA

  • Sunday morning garbage pick up in the "downtown" area continues at a cost of $2800 borne by the FHCA. Will try include it in the garbage contract that is up for rebidding in 2000.
  • Concreting on the Bay should be complete very soon.
  • Repairs to other walks: Take pictures of unsafe area, note exact location on back and give to FHCA which will report to the Town of Islip. Only when the Town has received the notice is there liability on behalf of the Town. Alternately, if the issue is more pressing, send letters and pictures directly to the Town attn: Town Attorney Ernest Cannava.
  • Eugene Levy, President FHCA reported on the Lifeguard/toilet issue. He reports that there seems to be no solution on hand immediately. A temporary solution may be available at Elm and Central if Islip can  get another waiver for a temporary solution. He reports that Islip is dragging its feet.
  • Please let the FHCA know of new owners and address changes for the new directory which will be delayed for another year.
  • The Bungee Cord program was very successful last year. Replacement bungies will be available. It is recommended though to build enclosures for the garbage cans since the deer have become quite skilled in opening those cans. Commissioner Rudikoff reminds the meeting to heed the Towns 8ft right of way when building those enclosures.
  • Replacement WRAP cans are available from William Newman at no cost.
  • Ralph Brozan of the Fair Harbor Medical District reported at the FHCA meeting on 5/23/99 that the Medical District is in the process of obtaining Bti rings and will make them available at the post office once open for home-owner use. The FHCA thanks the Medical district for having taken over this important project. In addition, Daminix Tubes are currently being placed around the community in a joint effort with Dunewood and Saltaire to reduce the tick population. Preliminary and unconfirmed reports indicate a 42% reduction of Lyme infected Ticks. Lyme immunizations shots are planned to be offered at a cost of $65 per shot. A total of three shots is required. Interested persons are asked to check carefully if safe and suitable to them. Defibrillators should be available in the community this summer.
  • Helen Kornblau reminds everybody of the Pine Walk Fair on 7/3 and asks for volunteers. A silent auction with many interesting items will be held.
  • The attendees voted to support an electric cart for the aged, handicapped and infirm to get around the community. Helen Kornblau inform the FHCA that there would be no liability and volunteers would be available to drive the cart.
  • Erica Feder of the Beach Erosion Control District reports that the beach looks reasonable when compared to the other communities. She is looking for additional bidders to install snow-fencing. The Interim Project is coming along slow. The debris on the Beach will be cleaned up shortly.
