Fire Island, Restaurants and Hotels of Cherry Grove

Cherry Grove's openly proud and gay residents have made the community one of the most colorful communities on Fire Island. It's many quaint walks harbor many different, interesting, and well maintained houses with styles as whimsical and divers as it's residents.

Grovers as it's residents are called are immensely proud of their community as show show by being active in the many organizations that survive only by donations. There is the Cherry Grove Property Association and the Cherry Grove Arts Project. Drawing on abundant talent the Arts Project puts on three full scale theatrical productions per summer.

One of the summers highlights is the annual "Invasion" on July 4th. A ferry is chartered and residents and visitors invade the Pines dressed up in their finest drag. Even the boats lining the harbor are in drag. This is an event not to be missed. Another is the "Miss Fire Island Contest" held annually in September at the Ice Palace. It's an outrageous show and lot's of fun.

Then there is the "Judy Garland Memorial Forest" between the Grove and Pines with stands of trees, brush and wood thickets. It is best known for it's other kind of wild-life going on from late afternoon into the early morning hours.
