Resident of Fair Harbor/Dunewood Water District:
As we stated yesterday in our letter to you, the water
in the Fair Harbor portion of the water system has tested negative for
asbestos for at least four consecutive samples. The water has been turned
on and is safe to use for any and all purposes. Fair Harbor is the area
between Keough Walk and Spruce Walk inclusive of both walks. The Water
Authority will continue to sample for asbestos on a weekly basis to ensure
the water remains safe for public use.
Several samples in the Dunewood Water System continue
to be positive for asbestos. It has been decided to temporarily bypass the
asbestos water main beginning today, April 19, 2002. The Authority
personnel will be installing polyethylene water main on the ground. As
each section is put in, it will be tested for sanitary conditions. Once we
have received satisfactory samples, connections will be made to the
service line that serves each home. We are hopeful this will allow each
home to have water with the next few days.
As a courtesy, the Authority will be providing bottled
water to be used by the homeowners that don’t have water service. We hope
to get permission to have the bottled water available at the fire house.
