| It's only 10 blocks wide and half a mile long, but over
the summer, people flock to Ocean Beach. Some like it so much, they've
even made it their year-round home. According to its visitors, Ocean Beach
is a place where they can find much needed rest and relaxation.

Ocean Beach with about 600 homes is
one of two incorporated villages and is considered the hub of western Fire
Island. The village sports a nice mix of
restaurants, bars, shops and even
hotels.
Walking on the beach, basking in the sun, biking, boating and fishing.
These are just some of the things people do in Ocean Beach.
This serene community with its white sandy
beaches and quaint homes was formed in the early 1920s. Because Ocean
Beach was mostly spared by the 1938 hurricane, many of the old and
picturesque houses remain. Not far from the commercial district by the bay
you will find quiet and quaint walks in this seaside resort with many
long-time residents taking good care of their houses. |

OB, as it is often called, has it's own police force and
court that is in session every Saturday. Ocean Beach tries to run a "tight
ship" because it has so many visitors and summer residents. It behooves
every visitor to carefully check the regulations as to not run afoul with
the law. Although known only a few years ago as the land of "NO" where
eating for example ice cream outside in the business district, OB is now
much more relaxed. And I might add much more fun and enjoyable.
The renter population is generally younger and appreciates
the diversity of the village and the nightlife. OB is reachable by
ferry and lateral
water-taxi.
