From the Point Orford Heritage Society
in Port Orford, Oregon:
(January, 2002)
We have opened a museum in a former Coast Guard station that is almost
identical to the Fire Island station as pictured in a 1935 book we have in
our collection. Here is the photo:

Our building:

Note that East Coast and Great Lake Chatham-type stations were finished
with clapboard and painted white, the Pacific coast stations were finished
in unpainted cedar shingles and allowed to weather, giving a particular
Pacific Northwest appearance.
Question: When was the Chatham-type building on Fire Island built.
Since our book has a photo in 1935, and it appears to be identical to
ours, down to pantry extension and chimney placement, we assume it is in
the 1930-1934 range.
If
you do not have this information, is there a local historical society or
museum that might?
Thanks.
