| Sailors Haven is home to one of the best known areas of Fire Island
National Seashore: The Sunken Forrest. It is located near the center of
the island, across the Great South Bay from Sayville. The visitor
center will be open Wednesday through Sunday June 29 through Labor Day
2002.
In
addition to a one and a half mile long boardwalk through the Sunken
Forest, Sailors Haven also offers a visitor center, snack bar, picnic
tables, life- guarded beach (summer only), a 42-slip marina with
electricity and coin pump- out, and bathhouse.
Ranger-led
interpretive activities are conducted daily throughout the summer
months, on weekends in fall and spring, and by reservation for schools and
other organized groups.

Directions
Route 27 to Lakeland Ave. exit (to Sayville). At intersection with Main
Street (Montauk Highway), turn left (east), then turn right (south) on
Foster Avenue and follow signs to Sayville Ferry.
Information Center
The Sailors Haven Visitor Center provides information and visitor services
seasonally.
