The Netherlands Antilles consist of Bonaire, Saba, Curacao, St. Maarten and St. Eustatius which were granted nearly full autonomy by Queen Juliana of the Netherlands in 1954. Before that they and Surinam were the Netherlands last remaining colonies. Aruba was part of the Netherlands Antilles until it got independent status within the Kingdom in 1986. Now the Kingdom of Netherlands consists of three autonomous territories; the Netherlands, the Netherlands Antilles, and Aruba. |
